Day 320: GOTV

Get-Out-The-Vote... I was back phone banking tonight in West Hollywood for Abbe Land & Lindsey Horvath. Yikes the campaign has developed such an ugly tone.

Pictured here are Lindsey and me at the 2009 National Women's Political Caucus Calendar event!

Why can't voters just use their ballot to mark their decision... why all the nasty comments on Blogs, FaceBook, trash
y newspapers... you want to support a particular candidate, great go for it, and if you don't then exercise your right and vote for the candidate of your choice.

When I was running for LA City Council, in a city and district multiple times larger then West Hollywood or Lakewood where Marisa Perez is running or Beverly Hills where Lili Bosse & Nancy Krasne are seeking election, the Blog-machine was a war of words. Nasty, negative, unproductive garbage was posted about me and other candidates as well. Just rhetoric based on nonsense. And very hurtful too.

Marisa called me
today to say she had read a very nasty post about herself on a local Blog, I immediately said, "Don't read that garbage!" It's mean spirited, full of lies and is written by people who have nothing better to do then right crap on the Internet.

Ah, such is the life of a candidate. There are good days, and there are rough days. You do have to be tough, thick-skinned and believe that you are running to make a difference.

I applaud all my sisters who are on the ballot next Tuesday, Election Day, March 8th! So Get-Out-The-Vote for these wonder women!

Day 227: We Have A Winner!

Congratulations Ms. Harris!

Whew, wow... finally we have a declared winner! Can you believe California had an election on November 2 and only today the winner of the Attorney Generals race made her acceptance speech. Crazy!

I supported Kamala Harris in her run for California's top Law Enforcement position and I'm thrilled she has won. Not just because she is the first woman and first minority to hold the office, but because she stands for making change to our very screwed up criminal justice system.

Did you know that California has the HIGHEST recidivism rate in the entire Country? That's not a statistic any of us should be proud of. We should be embarrassed about it. And embarrassed that we build more prisons than schools.

I don't know if Kamala Harris is able to fix all our state's criminal woes, but if she can implement policy to move this state forward on crime prevention then I'm all about her. I can't stand that we have so many inmates and so many prisons. I can't stand that my tax dollars fund the construction of prisons over new schools. I also can't stand that babies, children grow up in gang invested communities and have no shot at a decent life and then end up in the criminal justice system. So if we can get a hold of kids when they are young -- and cutting school and doing drugs -- and have an impact on their lives, then I will happily support those programs.

Prevention is key. Parenting is key. Community is key. And having an Attorney General who will implement progressive, alternative and radical change to these issues is key.

Congratulations again Ms. Harris. Make us proud please!

Day 214: Yep, That's Me

An old dear friend from High School, Beth Bonnet, sent me a message today. She said it reminded her of me ... and I'm flattered ...

Maybe I smile too much. Maybe I wear too much pink, but please remember I can rip your throat out if I need to ...

I laughed so hard when I read this message! It's spot on for me. I believe it characterizes me perfectly. I wake up everyday with intentions to be positive, grateful and happy, but if you cross me or god forbid harm my children or family, I will do serious damage.

So please understand that a happy, blond, pink wearing woman could be your fiercest opponent. My advice, don't mess with her.

And on that happy note ... have a great day :)

Day 157: Running Sprints

Yes, I'm sore. I'm sore almost daily from intense workouts. I keep asking, "when will I not be in pain?" Well it's been more than one year and I'm still pushing. Today was sprint running. Suicides as they are called. Have you ever run a suicide? Oh my gosh. You want to increase your running time and your strength, give these babies a try!

Had to pull out the ice for my rear today to get some relief. Tomorrow will be strengthening meaning lots of push-ups, planks, and lunges. Ouch. I can already feel the burning in my behind.

So you ask why do I keep pushing with these intense workouts? Well, the answer is I want to be strong. I want to be mentally strong and physically strong.

I can't turn the clock back and I intend to preserve what I've got. So yes I'm sore, tired, and know I'll have a grueling workout tomorrow, then a long beach run on Friday. It never really ends. But I have a goal, I have a plan and I have an intention. So the only way to accomplish this is to work hard even if that means working through the soreness and the pain. So keep it comin', I'm ready!

Day 43: Health Updates

Thank you to all the readers who have asked how my big sis Michele is doing! You followers are really the best. Here's the update.

Michele is much better, thank goodness and after her last MRI she received a clean bill of health for her neck. This being said though, the mystery continues as none of the doctors on her medical team have been able to figure out what caused the initial injury to her neck or the large mass. With heavy antibiotics the mass has evaporated and she has total mobility of her neck, all good signs of healing. But we are still questioning how the mass got there in the first place, and has it truly been healed? The mystery continues and I will keep you posted.

Next up, thank you for your concerns about my health as well. If you are a regular reader of my Blog, then you undoubtedly know that on Sunday Brian and I ran a 10k race (that's 6.2 miles). Not too shabby for a girl with severe nerve pain and a hole in her stomach caused by an ulcer!

I feel much better now that I am on some medication, but am not really 100 percent. I have a nagging, constant soreness in my stomach... I'm hoping that the hole will close with continued medication. But for those of you who know me, I am not a medicine taker. Never have been.

But as you can see from the fun photo to the right, none of our ailments keep Michele or I from partying with the girls, or from running in races, or going to work, or caring for children, or cooking, cleaning, flossing, shopping, or blogging ... we are like ox, nothing keeps us down!

Strong women, that's the only way to be!
